Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of Mayor Rob Ford getting booted out of office.

Ford was ordered out of the mayor’s chair on Nov. 26, 2012 after a judge ruled he breached the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

The ouster was the low point of Ford’s mayoralty up until the recent crack cocaine scandal that has seen him stripped of his powers and left essentially mayor in name only.

At the time, Ford vowed to “fight tooth and nail to hold on to my job.”

“I’m going to fight for the taxpayers of this city like I always have,” Ford said the day the decision came out. “The calls are coming in fast and furious, telling me to fight it, telling me to run. I’ll never give up fighting for the taxpayers.”

A day later, Ford apologized for the conflict-of-interest fiasco.

“Looking back, maybe I could have expressed myself in a different way,” Ford said, sighing heavily and coming close to tears. “To everyone who believes I should have done this differently – I sincerely apologize.”

Ford went on to win an appeal of the case in January.

Police documents since released reveal just a month after winning the right to stay in the mayor’s chair, Ford was filmed smoking crack cocaine – the video that would later spark the drug scandal in May.
